Location
The village of Goodrich sits within the centre of the Wye Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, lying beneath Coppett Hill, a peak that offers good walks and a splendid view of the River Wye.
Goodrich boasts an excellent country pub -The Cross Keys - a welcoming family-run former coaching inn that consistently garners rave reviews online and this is a stone's throw from New Barn House. In addition, Goodrich Village Hall is a fantastic community venue that frequently hosts various fitness classes, an array of music nights and also operates as a pop-up cinema. Arguably, the village is most well-known for its commanding 11th Century hilltop castle which stands on the northern fringe of the Goodrich beside the river Wye. This fortress features the 'Roaring Meg' – the largest and only surviving Civil War mortar, which was cast in 1646 for the castle's siege.
Goodrich also sits around five miles in either direction between the popular market towns of Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye, both of which feature good comprehensive schools as well as independent shops, cafes and restaurants. A network of excellent road networks are within easy access of New Barn House. The A40 is a short distance away and the eastbound road provides a direct route to Gloucester, Cheltenham and the Cotswolds. In addition, the M50 motorway begins in Ross-on-Wye, and this gives good access to the M5 - leading to Birmingham to the north and Bristol to the south.
